NBA Player Sentenced in KCMO for Charity Fraud

Former NBA player Kermit Washington, known for punching Rudy Tomjanovich’s face fracturing it and leaving him unconscious, was sentenced to six years in federal prison.

Washington was convicted after spending charity money on vacations, shopping and plastic surgery for his girlfriend. Washington told donors that 100% of the donations were going to benefit medical practices in Africa for HIV positive children. In fact, most of the spending was personal; he is also being fined $967,158 in restitution.

The 66 year old Vegas man pleaded guilty in November to both making a false statement in a tax return as well as aggravated identity theft.
