Everyone’s main priority, including the State’s, is always to make sure that children are in a safe environment. In Missouri, courts are allowed to assume authority over a child if there is evidence of neglect concerning the child’s needs and support. A court recently determined that the mere use of methamphetamine, dishonesty surrounding that drug use, and inability to get help was enough to establish mother’s neglect of child. There is no additional need to establish that the person was an unfit parent.
