{"id":4807,"date":"2019-10-19T08:00:29","date_gmt":"2019-10-19T13:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hoorfarlaw.com\/blog\/?p=4807"},"modified":"2019-10-15T11:17:41","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T16:17:41","slug":"missouri-enacts-new-law-in-which-sheriffs-get-paid-for-service-of-summons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoorfarlaw.com\/blog\/?p=4807","title":{"rendered":"Missouri Enacts New Law in Which Sheriffs Get Paid for Service of Summons"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The State of Missouri now\nrequires that everyone pay the sheriff $20 for service of any summons, writ or\nother order of court, in connection with any civil case, and making either a\nreturn indicating a service, a non est return, or a nulla bona return. &nbsp;In\naddition, the sheriff is entitled to receive for each mile traveled in serving\nany summons, writ, or subpoena a rate prescribed by the Internal Revenue\nService for all allowable expenses for car use expressed as an amount per mile.\n&nbsp;Sheriffs will also receive five percent on $500 and four percent on sums\nabove $500 for receiving and paying money on execution or other process where\nlands or goods have been levied and advertised and sold. The sheriff will also\nbe allowed for each mile, to and from the courthouse of the county in which he\nor she resides to the place where the court is held, the rate prescribed by the\nInternal Revenue Service. The sheriff receiving the reimbursements will pay\ninto the treasury of the county. The funds collected, not to exceed $50,000,\nmay be expended at the discretion of the sheriff for the furtherance of the\nsheriff&#8217;s duties.
