The Consumer Complaint Unit received 67,964\ncomplaints and the No-Call Unit received 43,566 complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the top 10 consumer complaints:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp; No-Call Complaints &#8211; 43,566 complaints were\nfrom consumers regarding No-Call violations and illegal telemarketing calls\ndespite being signed up with the Missouri no-call list. Complaints include\nphone calls to residents by businesses or organizations soliciting the purchase\nof goods or services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp; Solicitations\/Publications\/Subscriptions &#8211;\n2,171 complaints were from consumers regarding mail and phone solicitations for\npublications and subscriptions. These complaints generally involve the receipt\nof mail and phone solicitations regarding sweepstakes, lottery, and other\nsolicitation scams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.&nbsp;&nbsp; Financial &#8211; 1,503 complaints were from\nconsumers regarding disputes with financial institutions, debt collection\ncompanies and credit repair services. Financial complaints involve loan\nservicing, foreclosures, debt collection, and other products, services, and\npractices by banks, mortgage companies, debt collectors, and other financial\ninstitutions and service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.&nbsp;&nbsp; Automotive &#8211; 1,500 complaints from consumers\nregarded automobiles, automotive dealers, and automotive repair shops.\nAutomotive complaints often involve failure to deliver titles in a timely\nmanner from the dealership. Other complaints involve shoddy repair work and\nservice issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.&nbsp;&nbsp; Retail\/Wholesale &#8211; 1,210 complaints from\nconsumers were retail and wholesale companies.&nbsp; Most of the complaints\ninvolved purchases made through the internet, telephone, or mail and involved\nlate deliveries or products that were never delivered. Other complaints\ninvolved the purchases of appliances, furniture, and other items with warranty\nproblems, that were defective, or that did not work as advertised. Other\nretail-related complaints included issues with rebates, coupons, and gift\ncards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.&nbsp;&nbsp; Communications\/Technology\/Online Services &#8211;\n1,144 complaints from consumers were regarding communications, technology and\nonline services. Many complaints related to telephone cramming and billing\npractices where consumers received a phone bill for services that they did not\norder or were charged unauthorized fees on their telephone bill. This also\nincludes billing disputes and misleading promotions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.&nbsp;&nbsp; Real Estate and Construction &#8211; 1,136\ncomplaints from consumers were regarding home repair, construction, and real\nestate. These types of complaints involve storm chasers going door-to-door\nasking for money up front and providing little to no work, contractors who\naccept upfront fees and do not provide any of the work, shoddy workmanship,\nand\/or fail to honor home warranties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.&nbsp; &nbsp;Timeshares\/Travel Clubs &#8211; 985 complaints from\nconsumers were regarding timeshare exit companies, time share companies and\ntravel clubs. Complaints involved allegations that companies promised to resell\ntimeshares and failed to do so, that companies failed to provide deeds for time\nshares that consumers purchased, and that companies charged undisclosed fees or\nunexpectedly and continuously increased fees for maintenance and other related\nservices. Complaints also involved the sale of travel club memberships that\npromised discounts, opportunities, or services that were worthless or far less\nthan promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.&nbsp;&nbsp; Health &#8211; 747 health-related complaints from\nconsumers involved healthcare industry complaints, including billing issues\nregarding hospitals and doctor visits, supplemental purchases, and disputes\nregarding health insurance payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.&nbsp; Identity Theft &#8211; The 504 complaints from consumers\nregarding Identity include when someone takes your personal information such as\nyour Social Security number, date of birth, credit card number, or bank account\ninformation and uses it to commit fraud, then you can become a victim of\nidentity theft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, contact our\nlaw office at 816-524-4949 or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.Hoorfarlaw.com\">www.Hoorfarlaw.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2019, the Missouri Attorney General\u2019s Office received 111,530 consumer complaints.
