{"id":6214,"date":"2021-11-08T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoorfarlaw.com\/blog\/?p=6214"},"modified":"2021-11-02T12:05:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T17:05:57","slug":"pastor-swindles-150000-in-covid-relief-funds-then-buys-a-mercedes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoorfarlaw.com\/blog\/?p=6214","title":{"rendered":"Pastor swindles $150,000 in COVID relief funds \u2014 then buys a Mercedes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A South Georgia pastor faces decades in prison after he\u2019s accused of stealing thousands of dollars\u00a0in federal COVID-19 relief funds,\u00a0some of which authorities said he used to buy a new luxury car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A grand jury handed down a five-count indictment against Mack Devon Knight, 45, of Kingsland, according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of Georgia. The indictment alleges Knight, who\u2019s also a restaurateur and tax preparer, lied to the Small Business Administration to fraudulently obtain $149,900 in CARES Act funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He applied for the funds in February and March, authorities said, and falsely claimed that his businesses had raked in \u201chundreds of thousands of dollars of gross revenue\u201d before the COVID-19 pandemic. Knight then sent falsified bank statements to the SBA so it would approve his loan application, according to the indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After receiving the money, authorities said the pastor used some of it to purchase a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If convicted, Knight faces up to 30 years in prison and hefty fines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Struggling financially?
