If you write a bad check in Missouri, you may be charged with a crime. In order to charge you with the crime of writing a bad check, you must receive actual notice, in writing, that the check was bad. Usually, before you are charged with the crime, the county where the check was written will send you a letter giving you a few days to fix the situation by paying the amount that the check was written for plus the additional county fines. Failure to fix the situation could result in you being charged with writing a bad check.

When is a Divorce Final?

divorce 6People have many different views on when their divorce is final. Some believe it is when their divorce case is filed. Some believe it is when they come to an agreement with their ex-spouse. Others believe it is when their ex-spouse is dead.

However, Missouri has ruled that a divorce is final when all of the property in the divorce is separated and divided. This includes both the assets and the debts of the two former lovers.

If all of the property, assets and debts, have not been divided, then the divorce is not final. When the divorce is not final, no one can appeal the divorce.

Kansas Votes Not to Release Police Body Cams

In a 40-0 vote, the Kansas Senate voted that police body cams were exempt from the state’s open records act. This means that police would only have to release the video to the defendant of a criminal charge. However, if the police decide to release the videos on their own, they are allowed to do so.

Kansas City Court Offers Payment Plan

Kansas City, Missouri Municipal Court now allows defendants payment plans on any fines and court costs. When asking for a payment plan, the defendant must pay 10% of the fines within 15 days of pleading guilty and then the defendant is able to make monthly payments on the remaining balance.

Tax Tips when you Sell Your Home

  1. You can usually exclude (not report) any profit or gain up to $250,000-$500,000 that you receive from the sale of your home.
  2. You cannot deduct any loss that you receive from the sale of your home.
  3. You can only exclude the gain from the sale of your home every two (2) years.
  4. You must report any gain that you receive from the sale of a property that is not your main home.

Tax Return for Truckers Due August 31

This deadline applies to Form 2290 and is for the tax period from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. This form needs to be filed by anyone who owns a highway vehicle that weighs 55,000 pounds or more.
