Bankruptcy Can Stop a Divorce

When a person files for bankruptcy, an automatic stay is created at the time the bankruptcy is filed.  The automatic stay prevents some legal proceedings from continuing, including divorces.  In order for the divorce to continue after the bankruptcy has been filed, one of the spouses must ask permission from the bankruptcy court to continue the divorce.
