Between December 29 and January 10, 8.8 million people told the Census Bureau that they were not working due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, either of themselves or caring for someone else. 3.2 million people said they weren’t working due to concerns of the virus spreading and getting infected from it, up 25 percent from December.
