Letter from the IRS?

This summer many taxpayers will receive letters from the IRS. There are several key steps to take when this happens and many places to get guidance.

Read the letter entirely and keep it for your records.

Compare it with your tax return; see if there are discrepancies between their letter and your return.

Respond (In a timely matter if necessary), if you disagree with the letter be sure to include supporting documents and a letter explaining your disagreement.

Pay if necessary; pay as much as you can or look into an Offer in Compromise.

Contact the IRS if issues arise; call the number in the upper right corner and have your tax documents handy.
