Kansas Imposes Nation’s Toughest Online Tax Collections

The State of Kansas plans to impose what some tax experts consider to be the nation’s most aggressive policy for collecting state and local taxes on online sales, possibly inviting legal battles. The Kansas Department of Revenue issued a notice stating that any “remote seller” doing business with residents of the state must register with the department, collect state and local taxes, and forward the revenues to the state, starting on October 1, 2019.
