Boy Scouts File Bankruptcy

The Boy Scouts of America are under intense pressure with allegations of sexual child abuse going back as far as 30 years ago. Filing for bankruptcy for them means putting a stop to the hundreds of lawsuits they are currently up against. This is a turning point for the historical Boy Scouts Organization, which have, for several years, been blamed for failing to screen for sexual predators.

In some states, a law was passed allowing individuals to come forward to file sex-abuse lawsuits disregarding when the alleged abuse took place. The Boy Scouts have stated that the cost to defend and resolve these allegations is over $150,000 in settlements as well as legal fees.

Businesses Demand To Not Pay Rent

As we are all aware, the stay at home order in place (in some states) is to slow down the spread of the coronavirus which has had an enormous impact on business’ incomes. Some businesses such as, Mattress Firm and Subway are considering withholding rent. With the decline of customers due to the cancellation of all non-essentials, affording rent in April could be difficult for businesses. On a large scale, this could have drastic repercussions for the economy and businesses as a whole.

It is still unclear whether The Federal Reserve will give banks an exception to allow the property owners to defer payments for rent.
