The Diesel Brothers fined $851, 451

The Diesel Brothers are well known for their Discovery Channel TV show which gives you insight on their role in selling and transforming pickup trucks. The state of Utah has recently filed suit against the duo; the Agency for Environmental Protection is looking for damages due to their environmental harm.

When asked for comment on a recent article about the lawsuit, a spokesman for the Diesel Brothers said that fines are up to $1 million, including attorney’s fees. Most states have laws regulating diesel pickups to have required emission equipment present, which was missing for most of their trucks; they also violated the Clean Air Act in the process.

Missouri Brings Lawsuit Due to COVID

See the source image

Recently, the Attorney General of Missouri filed suit against Chinese groups and China itself seeking relief from damages against Missourians because of COVID-19. The suit is brought forth due to the ‘misfeasance’ of China in their failure to notify the world of the growing pandemic. Missourians, with the rise of unemployment, loss of life, and economic turmoil, have faced vast problems in direct correlation with Chinese governmental inadequacies with handling COVID-19.

See the source image

In an IRS announcement on Feb. 20th, 2020, it was stated that an increase in IRS visits to high-income tax payers would be coming. They want to ensure fair tax practices and are revisiting those who haven’t filed returns in years up to 2018. The visits are aimed at informing taxpayers, which make $100,000 or more, of their necessary obligation to be annually filing all tax returns.

In the same statement, the IRS reminded all taxpayers that the 2019 tax deadline is April 15th, though it has been announced that tax payments are delayed 90 days past that deadline due to the coronavirus.

VIP Cinema Holdings Quality of Products leads to Bankruptcy

See the source image

With movie theater attendance on the downhill, VIP Cinema Holdings – the largest reclining theater seat producer in the US – is set to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The decrease in movie sales has effected the lifetime of recliners, meaning large projected replacement of the recliners has not happened, almost halting business. The reorganization, with court approval, would put 51% stake of the company in the procession of H.I.G. Capital; this equity transition would ultimately eliminate $178 million of VIP Cinema’s long-term debt.

VIP originated in New Albany, Mississippi in 2008 as a residential furniture company, but has since relocated to St. Louis and expanded interests into the commercial movie theater sector, holding 70% of the luxury movie theater reclining industry. VIP hopes to emerge from bankruptcy by mid-April, while preserving 373 jobs.

‘Trial by Combat’ requested from Kansas Man in Case against Ex-Wife

See the source image

A Kansas man, David Ostrom, 40, of Paola, Kansas, said in a Jan. 3 court filing that his ex-wife, Bridgette Ostrom, 38, of Harlan, Iowa, and her attorney, Matthew Hudson, had “destroyed (him) legally.” David requested in a filing to an Iowa judge to let him engage in a sword battle with his ex-wife and her attorney so that he could “rend their souls” from their bodies. The Ostrom couple has been embroiled in custody and visitation disputes, as well as property tax payments.

The judge had the power to let the parties “resolve our disputes on the field of battle, legally,” David Ostrom said, adding in his filing that trial by combat “has never been explicitly banned or restricted as a right in these United States.”

Hudson countered that because a duel could end in death, “such ramifications likely outweigh those of property tax and custody issues.” Hudson requested the judge reject the request for trial by combat.

Judge Craig Dreismeier said in his own filing that due to irregularities with both sides’ motions and responses, he would not be making a decision anytime soon.
