Gold’s Gym International Inc., announced Monday they are filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They were forced to close 30 corporate owned stores due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. While this was a difficult decision, the company’s plan to be debt free is set to be no later than August. In the course of this plan, they will continue to assist their vendors and suppliers. They have also decided to continue to operate their 700 gymswhile working closely to abide by the correct protocol for the coronavirus guidelines.

US Airlines Receive Government Aid Paychecks

U.S. Airlines receive government aid paychecks as well as being assured they will remain employed until at least October. Airlines are hoping things return back to normal by then but with the 95% drop in travel, it seems to be things will continue to face a struggle even into the next year.

Six of the largest airlines have accepted the governments support, which means 70% of the money is to be used for payroll that won’t have to be paid back. While smaller airlines receiving less than $100,000 million, will not need to pay back anything.

Incomplete Mechanic’s Lien Reversed And Remanded

Kansas City Steel Werx Inc., took on a job as steel and labor subcontractors to help build a development project. This took a sharp turn when KC Steel filed a mechanic’s lien for around $400,000 against The District City Center LLC. It turns out, the filing was incomplete which gave the District City Center a chance to file a motion to dismiss it.

The district court made an error and ruled the claim fraudulent instead of incomplete which lead the case to be remanded.

Forever 21 is being sued by Alabama’s Eastern Shore shopping mall where the store was located. The owner claims to have lost a significant amount of money after leasing a space to the business. Allied Development was promised a yearly income of 6 million, but the company has only produced about 1.6 million in the first year. Both Allied Development and Forever 21 came to an agreement of Forever 21 paying their rent out of the monthly gross they were receiving.

Hertz Global Holdings Inc. May Be Forced To File Bankruptcy

With sales dropping due to consumers avoiding travel at a time like this, Hertz Global Holdings Inc., a rental car company, is still required to make monthly payments under their operating lease. It has been reported that the company and its representatives are arranging to temporarily reduce those payments. 

The company has requested to get an agreement in place to avoid potentially having to file for bankruptcy. If enough lenders vote against the request, the company will be significantly impacted and will leave them with no other choice but to follow through with the bankruptcy filings.
